Rue 127 is housed in a New Orleans shotgun house originally built in the late 1800s. Around 1910, the house was moved from its original location along the beautiful Bayou Saint John to its current location on Carrollton Avenue. During the 1950s, the building was home to an illegal gambling house where locals would come to test their luck with a game of cards. Before Hurricane Katrina, the new owners of the building were busy with renovations. Due to damage from the storm, their plans were delayed until late 2006 when their doors finally opened as restaurant Arabesque. After a few years in the grueling restaurant industry, the owners sold the building to Chef Ray Gruezke in August of 2010. Thanks in large part to the handiwork of Ray’s friends and family, Rue 127 opened to the public just a mere three months later. In July 2012, Ray decided to enclose the outside patio which increased the number of seats in the otherwise small, quaint dining room. Now, Rue continues to serve up its own vision of bistro cuisine with an emphasis on local ingredients. Much of the kitchens produce comes directly from the Gruezke family farm in Bay St. Louis, where Ray’s parents proudly grow many types of Louisiana citrus, juicy Creole tomatoes, bundles of radishes, and fresh berries to name a just a few. With the Gulf of Mexico at our fingertips, the menu often features local seafood in addition to meat from sustainable farms in the area. Because of our commitment to freshness, both our dinner and cocktail menus change seasonally.
