Japanese Style Hot Pot. The History of SHABUWAY began in August 2004, when Eiichi Mochizuki and Koji Kikura opened their first Shabu-Shabu restaurant in San Mateo. The name, “SHABUWAY”, is a made-up word meaning “the road to Shabu-Shabu”. It was named to offer customers the best Japanese style hot pot.
At SHABUWAY, we gained immense popularity for our mouthwatering thinly-sliced Kobe style beef and our all natural homemade ponzu and sesame dipping sauces.
Our customers also enjoy counter-style Shabu-Shabu, allowing them to have their own pots to cook at their own pace. This style was imitated by many other stores throughout the Bay Area, and is now common in this industry.
