Cafe de la Presse – San Francisco

Opened in September 2005 by Laurent Manrique, Jean Claude Persais, Lilyan Wong and Steve Mayer, Café de la Presse meshes a polished flair for modern fashion with a distinctly old-world feel. Hannum Associates recreated an authentic 1930s French bistro. Venue highlights feature a horseshoe-shaped alderwood bar, vintage posters, period light fixtures, and faux painted walls. Flat-screen monitors in the cafe and dining room play current and archival news, movies, and fashion shows around the clock. The newsstand offers more than 500 international titles. Outdoor tables and vividly painted red, blue, and yellow exteriors evoke a classic Parisian tabac, adding a striking element to the bustling corner of downtown’s Grant Avenue and Bush Street.
