Fifi’s Place only uses locally caught and or sustainable fish. Long known by locals for its outstanding freshness, Fifi’s Seafood has been discovered by visitors to our area as well. This has led to a recent expansion of the restaurant into the adjoining store front and has more than doubled the seating capacity. Famous for its seafood Paella and fresh Hog Snapper caught by local divers daily, we also offer the freshest stone crabs when in season and florida lobster.
Many who have discovered Fifi’s Place return often for the happening vibe and fish and lobsters that are often just hours out of the ocean. Many dishes have a Japanese twist, while others are solidly Latin. Every table gets a complimentary slice of homemade flan.
A key to the restaurant’s success is our supply network, which includes Yunieski Gonzalez, a former Cuban free-diving champ. Almost every day, the 28-year-old surfer paddles a mile out into the ocean and dives to spear hog snapper and grouper and, in season, to collect lobster. Rich Nichols of Port Royal Trading Co., west of the airport, supplies Alaskan black cod, blue fin tuna, Prince Edwards Island Malpec oysters, soft-shell crab and more. Nichols buys stone crabs from the Keys, and Fifi’s cooks them daily — most with the coveted “pink butter” (crab fat).
While Fifi’s Place was voted Best Under the Radar Restaurant by the Miami New Times in 2009, this seafood joint in mid-Beach is still a hidden gem. Clearly, success has not gone to owners Nelson and FifiFreshest paella dining room. The winning formula for this casual Collins Avenue spot is their focus on fresh fish, great service and strong flavors. Fifi’s Place also received a certificate of excellence award from Trip Advisor in 2011. What really sets Fifi’s Place apart, though, is the fact that diners can select their fish straight from a cooler. The catch of the day can be hog snapper or grouper, and they are huge specimens.
