For thousands of diners who love traditional Italian food, Giovanni Italian Restaurant is a Berkeley classic. Fifty years ago, in 1961, a young Giovanni Schipani opened Mr. Pizza, a small sidewalk pizza café on Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley. To the surprise and delight of passersby, Giovanni tossed pizzas in the window in traditional authentic style.
As a result of his success with Mr. Pizza, he bought an available warehouse located on the next block. This new location would become Giovanni Restaurant, where authentic Italian recipes are once again served by the original Giovanni Family.
Every Monday and Tuesday, all bottles of wine are half price!
