The Bake n’ Broil restaurant was opened in 1965 by Roger and Carol Jongewaard. Carol is an amazing baker and cook and many of her original recipes are still in use to this day. Bake n’ Broil has two head bakers, both trained by Carol, who have been there close to 3 decades. In fact they operated the restaurant for many years until the next generation of family, their daughters and one son-in-law, were old enough to take over day-to-day operations. The restaurant remains family-owned and operated to this day.
The Bake n’ Broil is the epitome of comfort food: delicious recipes that evoke family warmth, generous hospitality and the smells and tastes of childhood. Its the kind of food your mother, and her mother before that, used to make.
Of course we have meat and potatoes including pot roast, chicken fried steak and chicken pot pies that are “to die for”. No meal is complete without dessert and that may be why we are most well known for our pies, cakes and muffins.
We have been written up in many publications such as Sunset magazine, Los Angeles magazine, OC Weekly, this months Orange Coast magazine, LA WEEKLY, and many more.
We like to consider what we do as an home cooking that you come here to get. Our catch phrase has always been “simply good food” and that reminder appears above our entrance.
