Leon “LG” Greenberg lived life to the fullest as a public servant, an entrepreneur and a larger-
than-life host who made everyone feel welcome. LG had a zest tor life. He lied about his age to enlist in the Navy during World War II. He became a State Trooper in North Carolina, during which time he served as Ava Gardner’s bodyguard. He started the retail chain 5-7-9 and eventually moved to Southern California where be retired after selling a successful insurance agency.
Not content to while away his retirement years, LG combined his love of entertaining with his search for a good steaks in the Coachella Valley by opening the first LG’s Prime Steakhouse in 1991 in an historic 1948 adobe building on Highway 111 in Palm Desert.
Awards and loyal patrons followed, and two additional locations – one in Palm Springs and one in La Quinta – were added. LG became a local celebrity, mingling with customers and having his picture taken in one of his signature sweaters.
LG’s legacy continues today under the watchful eye of his wife and partner of 34 years, Gail.
