Manos Nouveau – San Francisco PERMANENTLY CLOSED

Latin fusion fare is the culinary focus at Manos Nouveau. Owned by Mission native Manuel Montalban, the name, which translates in Spanish to “new hands,” is meant to signify the new talent in the kitchen, Yucatecan chef Gualberto Nic Camara. The menu is meant to emphasize Latin flavors from Mexico & Peru, with dashes of inspiration from Italian & French cuisine & a Californian focus on ingredients. Works from local artists decorate the modern space & many of the plates were handmade by artisans in the Mission. Dishes are divided into “bocadillos” & larger plates & include starters like three kinds of ceviche, a mango-chayote-fennel salad & prawns & yucca in an aji sauce. Bigger plates like roasted salmon over green chimole rice, duck breast in a squash sauce with balsamic reduction & a grilled rib-eye over seared brussel sprouts round out the menu offerings. The wine list emphasizes Spanish, Chilean & Argentine vintages, as well as a handful of Latin & Californian beers by the bottle.
