According to Slavic legend, Mari Vanna was a fairytale grandmother who welcomed hungry travelers for a home-cooked meal. Mari Vanna Los Angeles brings the legend to life in West Hollywood with homestyle Russian cuisine in a garden-party-meets-grandma`s house ambiance: birdhouses, flower baskets and lanterns dangle above the cushioned wicker seating throughout the garden patio. The interior is ripped from the pages of Leo Tolstoy’s pre-war milieu, outfitted with brass chandeliers, stuffed armchairs, tchotchke-filled cupboards and peeled wallpaper. The menu features traditional Russian fare, including braised veal with homemade noodles, svekolnik (a chilled borscht soup with sour cream and diced vegetables) and beef stroganoff, as well as desserts like the kislitsa (chilled slices of orange-zested cream sprinkled with caramelized nuts). In addition to Mari Vanna’s famous house-infused vodkas — like pepper, seaberry and cucumber & dill — the L.A. location will also offer house-infused tequilas, including red pepper, pineapple and mixed berry.
