Nor-Joe Imports – Metairie

New Orleans has a long food history. In the early 1900’s part of that history included over 300 Italian grocery stores selling everything from live chickens and snails to imported meats and cheeses. These stores were located on every corner in every neighborhood in the city and were the center of food and community, thus forming the fabric of New Orleans. Less than a handful of stores exist today.

Nor-Joe Imports, which is only 26 years old, represents this sense of community that New Orleanians have around food. Started by a Brooklyn, New York transplant, this throw-back deli and grocery combines the best of European imports with the flair of the Big Easy to create a truly unique experience.

Known for its signature sandwich, the Muffaletta, Nor-Joe’s is pleasing the palette and sparking the memories of long-time customers and friends, known as “The Family”. Stop by and enjoy specialty sandwiches, sliced specialty meats, imported wines and cheeses and prepared foods to go.

Also, Nor-Joe Imports is home to the annual Muffaletta Festival. It’s a small neighborhood event that showcases the Muffaletta and many other food offerings from the Old Metairie area.
