Farida – Hollywood

Our menu pays modern homage & celebrates some of the world’s most ancient flavors — those of the Mideast, North Africa, Anatolia & environs of the Mediterranean. This ranges from the Levant, Phoenicia, Assyria, Babylonia, Amazigh, Anatolia and Egypt to Canaan, Mesopotamia and more— today the countries of Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Southern Spain, Cyprus, Greece, Crete, Malta, Palestine, Israel & Jordan.

From the Arabic word loosely translating to “incomparable” and named after George Abou-Daoud’s grandmother, Farida will draw inspiration from his mother and grandmother’s food that he grew up eating on the east coast– utilizing centuries old preparation techniques, but veering far from the conventional.

Farida comes two years after the launch of Bowery Bungalow, Abou-Daoud’s earlier foray into Mideast cooking, and arrives at a time when interest in Middle Eastern flavors is at an all-time high.

Middle Eastern food, an ancient cuisine with global influence, has not until recently been highlighted on menus across the spectrum. In recent times, you’ll be hard pressed not to find elements of Mideast food on chef’s menus and grocery shelves across the globe. The popularity of hummus, lebneh, dukkah, tahini, harissa, and Aleppo pepper just to name a few, has exploded. We’re happy to continue sharing this cuisine with our community.
