Notes from the Cellar

In creating the wine list for Steiner Ranch Steakhouse, our mission was simple; Bring to the table wines certain to enhance each guest’s experience.

To us, this means not only achieving an ideal marriage of food and wine, but a richly unique, versatile selection that stands on it’s own, be it by the bottle or by the glass.

At the heart of our inspiration is our Menu, which delivers an artistic variety of flavors. But just as significant in our consideration was our Venue, which celebrates all seasons.

To deliver the perfect experience, we sought to ensure that the bottled fruits of the cellar pay homage to both the spirit of the entrée and the spirit of the evening. For example, to complete the perfect summer sunset, our search for interesting, lighter styles took us across the world. Seeking crisp acidity, a lower alcohol content and lighter fruit flavor profiles, we selected racy compositions that dance across the taste buds, rather than being anchored to the palate. Examples of these would be our Gruner Veltliners from Wachau, or a nice Verdejo from Rueda del Duero.

In winter months, to accompany the cheerful flames at the outdoor fire pit and the stone hearth in the main dining room, we chose richer selections sure to warm the coolest Austin evening. A fine selection of cognacs and bold California reds promise to warm both body and soul.

For food pairings, we believe a nice Chateauneuf - du- Pape perfectly compliments the well-aged, perfectly seasoned flavor of our Texas Ribeye. Seafood fans will find our extraordinary collection of sauvignon blancs and unoaked chardonnays are beautiful companions to the salmon or sea bass. For those with a more exotic palate, the El Coto Rioja is a wonderful accompaniment to the Elk.

Whether your evening awakens with a glass of Champagne or sparkling wine, unfolds strictly to embrace the grape, or eases gracefully into the perfect dinner wine, it is our commitment to offer our guests styles that will delight, inspire, and intrigue.
